Last 2 days of term

Almost done with winter term in FDA fashion course and i am most def looking forward to the break. I will be researching, sketching and eating all for the new manifesto project witch i am very excited about :)

Eco/Sustainable/fair trade fashion Debate

The debate was real good... Sarah C was pleased and i took a lot away from it. I did not realize that cows were bred separately for their milk, meat and skin, thats seems stupid to me.
The Judges were 2 to 1 with their final thought, 2 for and 1 against based on the arguments.....
I feel maybe a little more could be done to get us started with a more eco friendly fashion industry but there are a lot of people out fighting and for a starting point its probably where it should be because this stuff takes time to spread and as long as the world as we know it is still here in 70 years or so by then things should have changed for the better.

This project was great fun, still learning and it was def good practice to present it to the class as this was my first proper presentation in about 4 years and i find it difficult to communicate my ideas. Got some good criticism from a few of the tutors, must say i have learned that i am not great at taking criticism... i get quite defensive, i feel like art is not to be so criticised if the work comes from a true place but then realised the tutors were only criticising the sketch book as i was not communicating my thoughts as well as i could :) so thats clear.

How much do I Know about Fashion?
-I know that right now Rihanna is the Hot ish fashion ikon and Lady Gaga is a Crazy Lady

What do the clothes we wear say about us-Does what we wear define us?
-Clothes can show whether we care about our apperiance. To me cleanliness is way more important than an outfit :) Clothes do not define us, i would say what we do defines us

Who dictates fashion?
-The most free people.... the people who do not fear.

There is no doubt Will Smith is a huge success, i will put my reasons in bullet points so i don't get sidetracked:

6 weeks in

everything is still positive, I am enjoying everyday of the course and look forward to the start of the week more than the start of the weekend. Today we started our melting pot project in the Design unit and its great because this is a perfect opportunity for me to explore areas i am passionate about.... I have chosen to design a Varsity Letterman Jacket because i like the original design and love what they represent. I guess they are the equivalent to the sports ties you can earn in school in this country when you perform good in school sports. (Maybe this was just at my school , so if you are unfamiliar with sports ties/half colours, forgive my ignorance - i have done no research) Anyway in the US, high performers in High school or college sports such as Football and Baseball earn these letterman Jackets and they would be considered popular guys who attracted girls..... and that is what people associate these jackets with and i think its cool.

Communicating Visions in Black & White (Sculpture)

This project was a little battle towards the end for me because i underestimated how much work it would take to achieve what i set out to achieve so i did not have a lot to show at the end of the class but i am going to continue to work on it. The idea came after a long day at like 2am while i was trying to sleep and i cannot go into too much detail about the idea because its a hot topic and by that i mean if i say too much i could get in trouble and im not the best with words soo:)..... The design represents a loose woman's heart/emotion/feeling in picture on the outside and how it turns into a weapon and there is a lot of sociological mess involved.

Military Mood Board

I chose the topic Military for my mood board, i figured i would be able to use images i really like.... The camouflage pics are the work of a Chinese artist named Liu Bolin, I related the Jay Z album cover to this and DMX is in there because of his strong/leader type personality.

First Post

Hello

Okay.. I have too many excuses for being late with this blogging situation but none of that is important.

So this is our third week in on the FDA course and it all feels great, my only minor issue is self discipline. Must manage time better and organize my thoughts:)

Right; so much to say but i will be brief and follow with more regular posts. I was very excited to get cracking with this course and it has no doubt met all my expectations. The teachers/lecturers/members of staff have all been great, very helpful, all the students are cool peoples and individual. I am most grateful to be apart of the University Collage especially after two years of soul crushing office work (yes its that deep).

Look forward to following everyone else's blogs and i hope mine will entertain :)
